MAKING ART A PART OF EVERYDAY LIFE

Creative Scene commissions and produces all kinds of arts and cultural activities in some unusual places, in and around the towns of Dewsbury and Batley.

We don’t run a venue or a gallery, instead you will find us putting on gigs and cabaret-style theatre in pubs and social clubs, family-friendly shows in community spaces, spectacular events in town centres, parks and at festivals.

Find out more here about what’s on, what we do, and how to get involved.

COVID 19 UPDATE – 18 MARCH 2020

In light of the unprecedented effects of the Coronavirus pandemic, our first priority is the health and wellbeing of our team, and the people who are our audiences and participants. As such our current programme of shows and events will be postponed until later in the year.

We welcome Arts Council England’s position in supporting the sector and we want to assure all artists and companies we work with, that we will honour existing contracts, seek to find alternatives means of delivery, or postpone events and activities until we can re-schedule at a mutually convenient time.

Our team will be contacting individual artists, companies and freelancers in the next week to discuss how best to work this.

Events or meetings planned at Brigantia will not go ahead and where members have booked the space, we will suspend any booking charges and we will be in touch.

Our team is now working from home and so please do contact us by phone or email if you need to speak to us.

Our work is designed to bring people together, to support artists to develop and create amazing events and activities. Whilst we can’t carry out public-facing events in the community, we will be considering how we can support artists and communities in the coming months.

We will be sharing updates via social media and our website.

Meantime, take care,

The Creative Scene Team

That’s it. After 101 stories from every corner of West Yorkshire and beyond, I’m finally bringing this Making a Scene blog to an end. For three years I’ve had the pleasure of documenting dozens of activities as the Creative Scene team encourages local people to bring the arts into their everyday lives. For me it
