Brigantia is the home of Dewsbury’s Creative Breakfasts, supportive creative classes and a place where, once a month, people who work independently in the arts get together for Freelance Thursdays, with guest speakers, networking and social opportunities.
Artists also use Brigantia to develop new work. The space has helped to create:
Brigantia runs as a membership scheme. You pay £3 per year and can attend a whole host of workshops, events and classes for free. If you’re a member you can also book Brigantia as a meeting space.

We have a range of events happening at Brigantia including Brigantia Bootcamp, Freelance Thursday and Creative Breakfast. Check out what’s happening at Brigantia here.
Brigantia Bootcamp is our programme of workshops and events that brings together anyone who wants to have a go at something creative – be they artists, local residents or students – in a friendly and inclusive environment.
We also know how tough it can be being a freelancer or small business owner. Our Freelance Thursdays aren’t only to meet other people in the area who work alone but to learn the essentials: how to do your tax return and register as self-employed, how to build your personal brand and how to master the basics of social media. We can promise you a break away from your shared office, back room or studio with the chance to meet other artists, freelancers, digital start-ups and community organisers in the area – and we’ll always have the kettle on and the biscuits out.
Bringing together local artists, businesses and Kirklees residents, Brigantia’s monthly Creative Breakfast aims to facilitate conversations on how creativity can benefit our area and improve the lives of those who live and work here. You don’t have to be an artist or business owner to come along, but you’ll get to meet likeminded people, share ideas, learn or just listen with your complimentary coffee and croissant.
Brigantia is located on the 5th floor of Empire House on Wakefield Old Road in Dewsbury Town Centre. Empire House is the building above the Post Office, just next to the town hall.
If you’re arriving after 5pm, someone will be located at the entrance of the building to send you in the right direction on the day.
Brigantia is wheelchair accessible between 8.30am-5pm. There is an accessible toilet, and on street parking outside the building.
If you have any questions about attending a session at Brigantia then drop a line to Simon at Simon@creativescene.org.uk.
Due to COVID-19, Brigantia is currently closed.
