BRIGANTIA

brigantia

Brigantia is the home of Dewsbury’s Creative Breakfasts, supportive creative classes and a place where, once a month, people who work independently in the arts get together for Freelance Thursdays, with guest speakers, networking and social opportunities.

Artists also use Brigantia to develop new work. The space has helped to create:

  • 54 Collective’s touring Family show, Rabbit Girl & The Search For Wonder
  • IOU’s writing and poetry workshops for Rear View
  • Walk the Plank ‘s Make It Happen School for the Dewsbury Togethering
  • Brilliant light art and magnificent lanterns with local students and artists from across Europe for HeckmondLIGHT
  • The Weeping Sisters with 6M+ for Holocaust Memorial Day
  • And it’s where we trained the next generation of young outdoor arts producers with Emergency Exit Arts through the Paper Peace project.

events

We have a range of events happening at Brigantia including Brigantia Bootcamp, Freelance Thursday and Creative Breakfast. Check out what’s happening at Brigantia here.

Brigantia Bootcamp is our programme of workshops and events that brings together anyone who wants to have a go at something creative – be they artists, local residents or students – in a friendly and inclusive environment.

We also know how tough it can be being a freelancer or small business owner. Our Freelance Thursdays aren’t only to meet other people in the area who work alone but to learn the essentials: how to do your tax return and register as self-employed, how to build your personal brand and how to master the basics of social media. We can promise you a break away from your shared office, back room or studio with the chance to meet other artists, freelancers, digital start-ups and community organisers in the area – and we’ll always have the kettle on and the biscuits out.

Bringing together local artists, businesses and Kirklees residents, Brigantia’s monthly Creative Breakfast aims to facilitate conversations on how creativity can benefit our area and improve the lives of those who live and work here. You don’t have to be an artist or business owner to come along, but you’ll get to meet likeminded people, share ideas, learn or just listen with your complimentary coffee and croissant.
