Parking a Poem in a Biscuit Factory – just one of the things the Creative Scene Team find themselves doing as we continue our mission to make art a part of everyday life.

This book looks at what it takes to build a creative ecology in an area of West Yorkshire identified by Arts Council England as being below the national average for participation in the arts, its people often alienated from the prevailing cultural scene.

Find out what motivated local people to get involved, bringing fresh ideas and the passion to make things happen. Discover the unusual spaces and places that became the setting for artists and performers to create and present to curious new audiences – from cricket clubs and rugby grounds to train stations, community centres, pubs and social clubs.

With illustrations and storytelling by Len Grant, Parking a Poem in a Biscuit Factory also features an introduction by Dr Jonathan Gross and Professor Nick Wilson.
