Kirklees Artists, Commit to being Creative!

Calling all creative people in Kirklees: Do you want to become part of a creative project and feel supported and encouraged?

Develop your practice, connect with peers and receive critical feedback and support?

Are you feeling disconnected and uninspired after Covid and want to reconnect to the wider artistic community?

Led by Liversedge-based artist Pauline Leitch – and building on the success of the Talking Heads project – we’re asking you to commit to being creative for the next three months.

How do I get involved?

To commit to being creative you will be asked to put aside anything from ten minutes or a full hour, a couple of times a week, to produce a drawing, piece of creative writing, photograph, or idea which can be shared with a like-minded peer group of artists for discussion.

These snapshots of creativity, half-formed poems, and flashes of inspiration will be collated into a group work and provide the starting point for each member of the network to work on individual pieces of work to be exhibited in winter 2021, at Creative Scene’s new venue Union in Dewsbury.

The project will initially be run through a WhatsApp group and a monthly Zoom meeting, where we’ll all share our work – but we hope to be able to offer face-to-face meetings for those who want to from September.

These meetings are intended to be as inclusive, friendly, and relaxed as possible, and if you have any access requirements then please contact Sara (sara@creativescene.org.uk) – we can support you.

If you are an artist, a writer, a poet, a dancer, a singer, or creative in some other way and want to commit to being creative, book your free place and join us for an initial meeting on Wednesday 16 June at midday on Zoom.
