Introducing Parking a Poem in a Biscuit Factory

Parking a Poem in a Biscuit Factory – just one of the things the Creative Scene team found themselves doing as we continue our mission to make art a part of everyday life.

16th February 2021

We’re delighted to introduce our first book, Parking a Poem in a Biscuit Factory – which looks at what it takes to build a creative ecology in our area of West Yorkshire, which has been identified by Arts Council England as being below the national average for participation in the arts.

With stories and illustrations captured by Len Grant, inside the pages of Parking a Poem in a Biscuit Factory you’ll find out what motivates local people to get involved in the cultural scene – and how they bring fresh ideas and passion to make brilliant things happen.

You’ll also discover the unusual spaces and places that became the setting for artists and performers to create and present to curious new audiences in Dewsbury and Batley – from cricket clubs and rugby grounds to train stations, community centres, pubs and social clubs.

If you missed our online book launch, you can catch up here and you can purchase your copy of Parking a Poem in a Biscuit Factory here.
