Whilst developing our ‘There Will Be Fire’ event earlier this month, we got to know Naveed and¬†Michelle at the Crow Nest Park Cafe. It will be their first Christmas¬†in the cafe¬†and they¬†plan to make¬†it a special one – cooking a huge Christmas dinner that will be free for anyone who. for whatever reason, would otherwise be alone or would struggle to make ends meet.
People from Dewsbury Moor and the surrounding area have been leaving food, drinks, money and Christmas crackers at the cafe throughout December to help with this mammoth task. Creative Scene staff Rebecca and Ruth dropped of their donations last week and when Creative Scene asked if we could help decorate the space Michelle presented us with 20 scented candles (donated of course!) that she had hoped could be the centerpiece of the tables. Our SceneMaker project coordinator and in-house designer, Ruth decided this was the job for her, with help from SceneMaker Harriet.
Ruth highlighted: “As this amazing¬†meal¬†will be taking place in the park cafe and its such a beautiful green space,¬†Harriet and I have foraged for¬†holly and¬†sticks to make decorations that¬†look¬†traditional that should fit in with the surroundings. We’ve been sat in front of my¬†little open¬†fire at home¬†making¬†wreaths to go round the candles and a couple for the walls of the marquee too. It’s been a¬†lovely was to get into the Christmas spirit!
“I’m lucky to be spending December 25th with my family back home in Northampton so I won’t be around to volunteer on the day, but I’m looking forward to¬†helping set¬†up as much as we can on Christmas Eve. Michelle and Navid have been so selfless, it feels great to help them, even in this very modest way”
Crow Nest Park Cafe Christmas lunch will be taking place from 4pm on Christmas Day in a Marquee on the lawn in front of the Museum.
