Creative Scene is looking for an exceptional arts organizations, or team of artists, along with a project producer to collaborate with local residents to make work as part of ‘Dewsbury on Sea’.

You will engage local residents through a series of workshops and outreach activities, for nine days over a two week period in August, and produce work designed to make a big impact for one day only, to be shown in Dewsbury Town Centre as part of ‘Dewsbury on Sea’.

‘Dewsbury on Sea’ is a Kirklees Council-led annual event, which sees parts of Dewsbury town centre transformed into artificial seaside for just one day. There’s always a beach and amusements – stalls, games and donkey rides – but to date there hasn’t been a notable arts presence. We’d like that to change this year.

For this particular project we are working in collaboration with Connect Housing, who is providing the workshop space at its new offices on Bond Street, in Dewsbury. Connect provide social housing and also offer support to people who have experienced domestic violence, mental health issues and young people who are single and homeless. Some of these groups will be involved in the workshops. In this instance, support will be provided by Connect’s community worker. There will also be open, drop-in sessions

All artistic disciplines will be considered including cross-disciplinary work. Ideas must be co-created with participants, relevant to the context and carefully shaped by you.
